MBA Preparation…From Siliconindia…
Taken from www.siliconindia.com
As I am due to start my preparations shortly (from 1st July), it is time to draw up a plan that works. My past experience tells me that my weakness lies in verbal, particularly in sentence correction and reading comprehension. So, I am going to start with these areas and continue revising until the test day along side other preparations (Quants, AWA etc.).
Here is the plan
Week1 (5 days) Manhattan SC
Week2 Manhattan RC & Kaplan Premier verbal
Week3 Kaplan Premier verbal
Week4 Kaplan Premier Quants
Week5 OG 11 (20 questions from each section every day)
Week6 OG 11 (20 questions from each section every day)
Week7 (4 days) Revisions & AWA & Exam
In addition I am looking to do Kaplan 800 every day from Week 3 to Week 6 whenever I find time (if at all I do!). Manhattan SC is also on the list for revisions every day.
I am looking to take 6 CATs during the preparation as below
Power Prep 1 & 2
Manhattan CAT – 2 tests
GMAT Prep 1 & 2
Yes, it is a very tight schedule. Looking at the comments I have received in the Blog and through other sources, people think I am being over optimistic here. Taking that into consideration, I will assess my preparation by taking GMAT Prep 1 at the end of week 4. If I don’t score around 700 with a verbal score of 38 plus, I will have to reconsider my position. Hopefully I can stick with the current plan

What i expected from my employer?
I have never thought about my salary for past two years because i am getting an amount from which i can save a little bit every month after all my expenses.
Recently there is a thought arising in my mind…Am i really getting what i am worth for?
I couldn’t find an answer with a positive sign before it.
I said the salary doesn’t bother me..so what else is bothering me…i am contended with my Project, PL, PM…everything i got best of its class…
Finally there are few things which irritates me…
i find the board is missing the real focus…Satyam is definitely not under a better hand of management…They are looking out for their expectations and benefits ofcourse which shouldn’t be blamed from their point but not feom mine…
I sense lack of enthusiasm for non SAP practices here, to win, to sustain, to motivate…
The upper crew is concentrating only on expertise and verticals, they just dont want to compete or develop non expertise…
i can smell a different motivation behind the acquisition…they are strong in one domain and they need to be strong in another competency unit…
Me, at a developer level wish to compete with fellow IBM, Accenture, Infosys and TCS…but it feels to switch rather than staying and watching my once beloved ‘Satyam Computer Services ltd.’ to die in every aspects.
The extreme sentiments was visible when a fresher who s about to join in aberdeen business school in about a month doesn’t want Mahindra to be tagged in his ID card…he wish to leave from Satyam Computer Services Ltd. rather than Mahindra Satyam…ofcourse sentiments lasts long…:)

Google, Microsoft…A foresight on them after 20 Yrs…
The greatest empires have never been greater for much longer period…
Be it be ethical or not…The scenario is different…
I wrote about Google entering into OS before 3 years in my blogspot blog. Even i didnot thought of it with much seriousness… I made it as a calculation of the brightest people joining the Google…
But my insight is right now but what i thought is totally wrong…
I thought that gOS as a Pure Google Product…but in reality its going to be not…
I guess they are not totally prepared or they will not share the OS market is my prediction… Building an OS over Linux kernel will not fetch google new geeks unless and otherwise they introduce new features….
Its time for Google to spend money on research in colleges to develop new OS that will overrun Windows. As if now i dont see google’s having a clear focus in its path on its products release. The targets they set is not actually of their standards.
i am getting bored to discuss much on gOS.
Microsoft, after Bill’s exit is struggling to keep with the pace. Steve is facing much problems with failure of Vista, they have a large pile of money otherwise now, even microsoft is not a special company when you dont compare it in terms of CTC they offer.
So what will these companies be after 20 yrs from now…
Definitely gOS wont be a success…web search engine will be there even after 20 yrs…will add up whole lot of new mergers and buyouts…
MSN cannot compete with Google as the company may totally rely upon the OS share only.
Probably Oracle and Google will be the top leaders even during 2020s.

Taken from Sun Microsystems Student Zone’s Notes in Facebook
Last week, Sun interns had the opportunity to sit down with Chief HR Officer and Executive VP of People and Places, Bill MacGowan to discuss career advice for the present and future. It was great to hear Bill address this audience with transparency and directness. His five key points were:
1. Take feedback as a gift – don’t take it to heart or get defensive when someone is trying to help you. Acknowledge in a positive way to use to your advantage.
2. Practice your communication skills. In other words, be able to communicate effectively whether in an email, phone or in-person. It helps to be present in meetings with your manager so communications are not misconstrued.
3. Think from the aspect of your boss. In your position, what is right for the whole company not just what is good for you. Think of the bigger picture for the company’s benefit.
4. Don’t get stale in your job. Lateral moves are ok just mix it up every 3 years or so. This helps you to improve your skills, stay relevant and be the best you can be.
5. Keep external networks going. Network within company but make sure external networks are there as well.
I think this is solid advice and believe I have personally committed to these goals whether I’ve realized it or not. Bill also complimented this generation on being hard working and have better ideas of where they want to be. Today’s new graduates have parents who have guided them differently than when he was in college. Parents today also have more resources and the experience to help their children focus more specifically than just making the grade. Thank you Bill for an inspirational session! I hope the interns enjoyed it as much as I.
